Co-op in Outward Definitive Edition runs online for up to two players, so a friend can share the trek to new cities. Play centers on survival: keep your traveler hydrated and rested, avoid infectious diseases, and weather harsh conditions between missions and dungeons. The edition folds in both DLCs, new weapons and a City Building mechanic that turns the Refugee Camp into New Sirocco. A friend is not required, but the world is built to punish an unprepared solo traveler, so stock supplies before every expedition.
