Some stages cannot be cleared on a first attempt, and the game expects you to look up a strategy for them. Still, the rules stay short: tap a cat to send it out, then bring down the enemy castle. The cat cannon can turn a losing fight around. Cleared stages let you save your lineup, and notifications flag zombie attacks and limited-time stages. Pace is yours, since there are no friends to keep up with.
