Dao and his friends are trying to stop Pirate Captain Lodumani, and the story mode uses that chase to introduce each race type. Speed Race unlocks harder tracks through licenses, while Ranked Mode runs from Bronze up to Living Legend. Nitro boosts are timed around drifts. Items and Infini-Boost only appear in Arcade Mode, so Speed Race stays a pure drifting test, though the single story is the only narrative.
